SECOND ANNUAL
Iowa Mathematical Field of Dreams Conference

Living Dr. King's Dream

Conference application - Student

If you are a student who would like to participate in the Iowa Mathematical Field of Dreams Conference, please discuss the conference and your nomination with your faculty mentor.  If he or she agrees to nominate you, please fill out the STUDENT APPLICATION FORM. Student applications submitted without mentor nomination will not be considered.

Conference application - Faculty

If you are a faculty mentor, please suggest to appropriate students that they apply, nominate them, and consider applying yourself - there are many activities at the conference specifically for faculty. To nominate a student and/or to participate yourself, please fill out the MENTOR FORM.

We will provide participants with accommodations in local hotels for Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8.  Meals on the 8th and the morning of the 9th will also be provided.

We will provide students with air travel.  Mentors who have access to travel funds through their college or university or grant are asked to pay their own air travel to allow us to use the available funding to support more mentors, but if travel funding is necessary for your participation, please indicate this on the application form.

We will arrange accommodations for all participants, and air travel for all participants whose travel is funded by the conference.

After October 1, we will review the nominations and make the participant selections. Students and mentors will be notified by October 10.

Alliance 2007

Participants relax and get to know each other.

Past participant Antonio Lopez says...

" The opportunity to meet and interact with professors and minority students from other universities helped me understand how important graduate school is to my future.  As I listened to others talk about how they accomplished their goals I was glad my professor recommended that I attend."

Attending the conference also provided knowledge that will help me organize my application for graduate school – learning about applications, letters of recommendations, deadlines, assistantships, classes."

--Antonio Lopez, undergraduate in mathematics from the University of Texas at Arlingron
