Elgin Johnston
Elgin Johnston, professor of mathematics at Iowa State University, has been involved in middle school/high school level problem solving for 20 years. Johnston works with Math Counts and regularly contributes problems to the AMC 8, AMC 10, AMC 12, and AIME exams. For the last eight years he has led a Math Circle for high school students in Ames. In addition to department and university awards, Johnston has been recognized at the state level for his outstanding teaching.
Gail Johnston
Gail Johnston, senior lecturer in mathematics at Iowa State University, earned her Masters in mathematics education at the University of Illinois, Urbana and taught middle school mathematics for several years in Champaign, Illinois. For the last several years Johnston has taught mathematics courses for future teachers. A strong believer in cooperative groups and discovery learning, Johnston uses these methods in her own classes to model outstanding practice for her students
Jean Krusi
Jean Krusi teaches 8th grade mathematics and algebra at Ames Middle School and coaches
MATHCOUNTS. She enjoys using problem solving to introduce lessons and teach mathematics to her
students, and encourages them to engage in productive mathematical discourse in her classroom. National Board Certified, Krusi is a recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching; Sliffe Award; Math Hero Award and a Toyota TIME grant.
