Giving. The Power of You.The Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University has prioritized for the following items relative to our goals: Named Graduate FellowshipsTo help the Math Department attract and retain outstanding graduate students, we would like to endow one or more fellowships for graduate study in mathematics or applied mathematics. Currently, most students are supported on teaching assistantships, and while we believe that teaching undergraduates is an important part of the experience of graduate students in this Department, at the same time it is also important to be able to offer students support at a critical points in their careers which does not carry with it teaching responsibilities, such as when the graduate student is commencing research toward the dissertation. Graduate Fellowships in mathematics are offered by other Ph.D. granting institutions in the U.S., and for us to be able to do so allows us to match the competition. Major donors can have their names attached to these fellowships. Marian Daniels Scholarship FundMarian Daniels was a faculty member in the Department for two decades in the first half of the 20th century, and left a bequest to the Department to be used for scholarships to worthy students. As tuition at the university rises, we would like to increase the value of our scholarships, and at the same time we would like to encourage more students to study mathematics. |
Retired professor Fred Wright and his wife, Mary Lou, recently established the Fred Wright Mathematics Endowed Scholarship Fund to support undergraduate students who show exemplary skills in extracurricular activities. |
