Li leads week three of Linear Algebra workshop
Chi-Kwong Li, Ferguson Professor of Mathematics at The College of William and Mary, is presenting "Matrix Inequalities in Science and Engineering" in the third week of our Linear Algebra workshop.
Dr. Li will discuss higer rank numerical range and local C-numerical range in quantum dynamics, Perron Frobenius theory and matrix inequalities in population dynamics, Hermitian splitting method, distance matrices in the study of molecular structure, graph layout, and multidimensional scaling (MDS).
Party Animals project
200 donkey and elephant (symbols of the Democratic and Republican parties that define our Nation's Capital) sculptures are scattered throughout the District of Columbia. The Party Animals are made possible with the support of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanitites.
Party Animals and Iowa State University
Although the general election is still months away, University administration has put together some helpful (and gentle) guidelines on what we can and cannot do during this period of political excitement and activity.
As citizens, employees and students of Iowa State University have the full right to actively engage in the political process. However, as a state institution and non-profit organization, Iowa State University must abide by federal and state restrictions regarding the use of its property and facilities for political purposes. While recognizing the University’s mission of education is fundamental to a democratic society, public trust requires that the university and its resources not be used to promote partisan political causes and candidates.
The guidelines are designed to help students, employees and administrators understand the boundaries of involvement of the University in the political process. If you have more specific questions, please contact the Director of State Relations or the Office of University Counsel.
A lighter Linear moment
Following formal lecture last week, students enrolled in Linear Algebra and Applications workshop share some serious humor with instructor Davied S. Watkins.
