PetersMosaicMosaic of Peters symbolizes his tenure as Chair

Being photographed is not among Justin Peters' favorite things to do, explained Wolfgang Kliemann just before presenting Peters with this larger-than-life mosaic at the department's annual meeting last week.

But Peters admitted he was intrigued by this image of him created from a compilation of 147 tiny images of faculty members, graduate students and staff members in the department.

Several observers noted how the composite image paralleled Peters's leadership style over the past seven years that he served as Chair. Colleagues described Peters as an "excellent concensus builder," a "catalyst" and a "natural born leader."

Here, distinguished professor Krishna Athreya and graduate student Bryce Allen find themselves in the mosaic.

The photograph will be in Carver 404 this week to allow you to take a closer look.
