MORE 2009
Wolfgang Kliemann presents Neil Marshall a TI Nspire CAS handheld calculator at our second Mathematics On the Road Experience visit last week in Pocahontas. Marshall, a freshman from Alta, said he found the program helpful in understanding the best way to move through high school mathematics.
Dianne Cook's (Statistics) presentation, From Restaurants to Climate Change: Using Statistics to Understand Our World, engaged the audience and elicited further discussion.
Our next MORE event is scheduled for Monday, March 30 in Cedar Falls.
ISU hosted this event over the weekend. Photos and information posted as they become available.
Teams of three students worked on 10 competition problems together. Each team turned in one solution to each problem.
Six of the approximately 38 teams from across Iowa were from ISU. Teams traveled as long as five hours to participate.
An hour of "math-fun"in which students can interact with others, playing various math puzzles and games, helped them relax before the competition.
ISU hosted this year's competition because a team from ISU won the competition a year ago.
Above, ISU students Matthew Ramthun, Kaela Rasmussen, and Kayce Rich relax with the game Set before the Iowa Collegiate Mathematics Competition in Carver Hall on February 28. Below, ISU students Christopher Rauh, James Strickland, Kacy Messerschmmidt relax by playing Farkle.
