TNWLook at the numbers: Workshop a huge success!

Eighty-eight participants registered for Friday's Should we trust the numbers? workshop - and then 37 more walked in to hear Susan Haack (University of Miami) and Jay Kadane (Carnegie Mellon Emeritus) talk about numbers in the Court of Law. Other presenters included David Alexander (ISU), Stephen Vardeman (ISU) and Joseph Kupfer (ISU).

susan haack

Susan Haack proposed that numbers used in Court must be accurate, meaningful and in context.

Jay Kadane

Jay Kadane emphasized that accurate numbers, absent context, may imply erroneous conclusions.

Wolfgang Kliemann

Wolfgang Kliemann moderates a panel comprised of Kevin de Laplante (Philosophy), Haack, Kadane and Alicia Carriquiry (Statistics).

The Numbers Workshop panel

Evening panel will be available on podcast on the ISU Lectures site shortly.
