Graduate student Yuanyuan Huang and professor Zhijun Wu's paper on Game Dynamic Model for Yeast Development was just published online in the Bulletin of Math Biology. The paper is actually for the study of evolution of social cooperation, a heated research subject on evolutionary theory in recent years.
Wu describes the story in the paper in this way: Two yeast strains compete for resources, one consuming and also contributing while another only consuming. Which has an evolutionary advantage? Can they co-evolve? An MIT group designed an experiment to observe it.
Huang and Wu (2012) provided a mathematical theory.
